A rendering of the new stadium that will open in 2016
The Minnesota Vikings and the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority (MSFA) have agreed to make the Vikings new stadium, slated to be completed in 2016, a multi-use facility.
The MSFA worked on a field plan that would let the stadium be used not only for the Vikings, but for other collegiate, high school and amateur sporting events throughout the year.
The confirmed field configuration will put the fans as close as 34 feet away from the players. The field will also be configured for use with baseball events. It will have a 26' high right field wall with a 300' right field foul line, 326' left field foul line and a 400' center field mark, along with retractable seats and removable dugouts. Since the Twins just moved into a new stadium in 2010, the baseball field will be used for collegiate and high school events.
This next bit is about a week late, but since this is a brand new series, I'll feature it today.
The Vikings updated their "Norseman" logo on Valentine's day. The new logo features newly shaped horns, sharper face detail, a new shade of Vikings gold and an enhanced hair braiding. Here's a side by side comparison of the two (new logo on the right):
And that's all for today. Have a good night and come back tomorrow!
